What I learned Through Travel

Throughout my life, I’ve had the opportunity to visit quite a few countries outside the US. I was homeschooled for a big majority of my life and without a doubt, I can say, some of the most valuable lessons and knowledge I gained wasn’t found in a book but in the Argentinian mountains, the tiny Bavarian cafes, and the language and culture of many other places.

Perspective

Watching the sunset in Chicago and 8 hours later, watching it rise again in Amsterdam, I can’t help but gain perspective on life, and what a blessing it is to travel. From getting to see the rich cultures and traditions of many countries in South America and Europe to gaining so much appreciation for the world we live in, travel changes you for the better. Most of all my perspective on my personal little problems has changed just by seeing how big the world is and how small my problems really are in comparison.

Cultures

There is so much to learn from seeing the different cultures this world has to offer. Two big takeaways for me are; First, that you don’t need to conform to modern ideals. In this modern world, we all try to be the same but feel free to live and embrace your culture. Second, people with so little are so happy because they don’t take it for granted. They live the old way of life based on family and tradition, not on WIFI and air conditioning.

Gratitude

Traveling has given me so much to be grateful for. I am grateful that I was able to experience and learn from travel. I can’t help feeling so much gratitude for all I have been given when I see the pure happiness of those who live on literal dirt floors.

After seeing the more impoverished and third-world countries, I try to not take for granted where I live and what I have.

Experiences

Getting to see the gorgeous architecture of Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany to exploring the vast countryside in Paraguay, travel gives you so many amazing experiences. The endless adventures and exploration that await you are so addicting.

Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany

I hope to take with me throughout my life, the experience and knowledge I gained from travel. The world is a wide and beautiful place, I can’t wait to see more. I encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and explore the world, write about it, take pictures, and don’t take it for granted.
